Hot
stones were used by the American Indians for massage, as part of their
sweat lodge ceremony. Today they are used in healing and remedial
massage. During a treatment the stones are moved over the body in long
strokes to encourage their deep heat to penetrate the body.
The
heat is particularly good for chronic stiffness, fatigue, aches &
pains and mobility problems. The heat increases circulation of blood
and lymph and improves the mechanical ability of the muscles and
connective tissue to elongate and move.
Cold
stones are also used where there is inflammation indicated. The
solidity of the stones, their size and weight help to bring us down to
earth and feel more supported, bringing a deeply relaxing and warming
experience.
